Nicemaker CIC

Since its inception in 2018, Icebreaker Dundee has made a concerted effort to programme balanced line-ups, and actively encourage representation from a wide range of identities, backgrounds and experiences. In the years that have followed, we've collaborated with a number of organisations over the years to create unique performance nights centred around specific communities or themes.

In 2025, we established Nicemaker CIC, our community outreach organisation that builds on the the work of Icebreaker to help diverse, local performers bring their work to an audience.

With a focus on subjects like queer identity and mental health, Nicemaker CIC gives underrepresented voices a platform to express themselves, and open up conversations around challenging but vital subjects.

Nicemaker CIC

Un-hushed

Un-hushed is a monthly queer spoken word event taking place on the last Tuesday of every month at Stenecki's Cafe. These are run in partnership with Dundee Pride and funded by Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action, and feature a mix of established professional headliners (including Gray Crosbie, Spencer Mason and Harry Josephine Giles) and local upcoming performers. It aims to improve understanding and acceptance of LGBTQ+ issues, and to develop new talent in the community.

Icebreaker Dundee

Prism

Prism was a queer spoken word exhibition presented in partnership with See Me Scotland. With performances by Iona Lee, Morgan Black, Fever Peach and Luis Alçada, the exhibition focused on how gender-based expectations and assumptions can influence mental wellbeing and personal identity.

Meltdown

Meltdown was a spoken word event focused on mental health at Discovery Point, with funding by Creative Scotland. The show, headlined by Funny Women Stage Award-winner Roisin Kenny Caird, focussed on the lifelong challenges with mental health, while presenting them with a comedic and accessible tone.
