Scene structure with Luis Alcada



Luis Alcada (they/them) is the alleged mastermind behind Icebreaker and Nicemaker.
They’re an event organiser, producer, comedian, poet, actor, teacher and cocktail maker. In other words, they’re the immigrant stealing all the jobs. You’ve probably heard of them.
As an event organiser they have put on over 500 shows around Tayside, including at venues like Discovery Ship and Tannadice Stadium, and been nominated for a Scottish Comedy Award for best comedy night. They’re also the treasurer for Dundee Pride Festival.
As a producer their shows have been featured at Hidden Door Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, Dundee Fringe (sell-out) and Leicester Comedy Festival. They also produced, wrote and acted in ‘Icebreaker Pale Males’ and ‘Dicebreaker’ which were featured at Dundee Rep and described by Magdalen Magazine as βWhimsical and Electrically Funnyβ.
As a comedian they’ve headlined hundreds of nights including in Scotland, Lisbon, Berlin and Bangkok, and won the Rockhopper Audience Award.
As a poet they’ve been featured at ‘I Am Loud’ and published at Gallery Press, Storytree Magazine, and Coin-Operated Press.
As a teacher they’ve taught at Abertay University and with Developing Young Workforce, and their workshops were picked by Michelle McManus as a festival highlight.
As an actor they’ve been in shows like River City, Counsels and Richard Gadd’s ‘Half-Man’, and in a series of music videos for Billy Liar featuring Frank Turner. They’ve also created content for BBC Social and BBC Short Stuff that amassed millions of views.
They were also a collaborator on Dud Hopes (Kryptonite), a sold-out immersive theatre experience by Studio Space Art, led by Sharron Devine and funded by Creative Scotland.
They have received funding from places like Creative Dundee, Creative Scotland, Dundee Council, See Me Scotland, DVVA and Corra Foundation.
